    It’s not all about CRM: How Microsoft Power Apps can make the difference to niche sector organizations

    We all know that every business is different and has its own challenges, issues, and processes.


    But, here at Solutions Shared, we are finding that there are a number of key niche sectors where organizations actually do face many of the same technology problems that can be drastically improved with a systematic approach to digital transformation.


    For once I am not talking purely about CRM and how Microsoft Dynamics 365 and/or Power Apps are the answer to how you deal with your customer engagement.


    Nor do I aim to use “digital transformation” in the all-encompassing, scary root-and-branch change management way, that often scares off busy executives and owners.


    What I am seeing, is that companies in niche areas such as building & construction wholesale, events, facilities & environmental services, and non-profits can dramatically change their operations away from old school Excel and paper documentation.


    The gateways to more sophisticated and efficient operations are model-driven Power Apps, which can be custom-built using low-code "programming" at low cost.


    Let’s take the area of wholesale. We are working with companies who provide the raw materials required for building roads and houses. They do not have CRM issues, in general, as it is much more about Order Management, providing a price and rate quote, sorting out production and delivery across multiple sites, so a lot of site maintenance and scheduling.


    Some of these companies are still running this complex and vital logistics trade using Excel sheets, with all the real-time challenges that brings.


    In a different area, we see non-profit organizations being essentially misled into purchasing a CRM product by large Microsoft Gold partners that does not provide what they really need.


    For us, these niche sectors require a consultative approach, so that we can go deep on how they are operating and understand what they need: not just a CRM, but what system they need to run their business.
